Continuing with the theme of Poetry and all things Random, I am participating in the Poetry Book Giveaway that poet Kelli Russel Agodon started. It is an ingenious idea. Basically, you comment at the bottom of this post if you would like to be in the RANDOM drawing (with the help of random.org) on May 1st to receive one of the following books of poetry.
First is the collection, LETTERS TO THE WORLD, which is an anthology of poems by the writers that make up the WOMPO (Women’s Poetry) listserv. It’s international and filled with some uber-notable poets…I am proud to say that one of my poems is included within as well. It is simply an outstanding collection of contemporary women’s poetry. 454 pages of good stuff!
The second book is by one of my all-time favorite poets, Octavio Paz. I wrote a critical paper as part of the requirements for Antioch’s MFA program on just ONE poem by Paz (Piedra de Sol). It led me to read almost everything he wrote. This petite book, A TALE OF TWO GARDENS, is a collection of his poems written while he was living in India as ambassador to Mexico. You can see that he was really a student of the world. Paz is one of my strongest influences and the reason I have written poems in the voice of La Malinche (the woman who fell in love with Cortez and is often blamed for the fall of the Aztecs). This is a great collection for anyone with an interest in poetry that immerses itself in sensation and experiences in the body. He was one of the great sensualists.
What to do if you would like to be a part of the drawing:
1) Please comment on this post.
2) Be sure to include your name and a way to contact you (email is best).
3) Include the title of the book you would like to receive if you have a preference.
4) If you are one of the lucky winners, I will contact you and get more details on where to ship the book…I pay shipping!
Wow, these books sound great. I love these poetry book giveaways!
